Why I started WellnessHub

Shari

People often ask me why I decided to create WellnessHub. The answer wasn’t one single event. It was years of quietly noticing something that seemed to be happening all around me. I saw good people, kind, capable, interesting people, who simply didn’t have enough people in their lives anymore. Some had moved to a new city. Some had retired. Some worked from home, which is a reality I’ve lived firsthand for over 15 years, and I know the toll it can take on you.

Some were divorced or widowed, while others had adult children who were busy building lives of their own. Others were simply discovering that friendships become harder to create as we get older. None of them needed to be “fixed.” They weren’t broken. Many had successful careers, loving families, and fulfilling lives. Yet many also wished they had more opportunities to meet people, enjoy local activities, and build genuine friendships close to home.

In 2023, the U.S. Surgeon General released an Advisory describing loneliness and social isolation as an important public health advisory. Reading that report was a turning point for me. It reinforced something I already believed: sometimes the greatest gift we can give one another isn’t advice. It’s simply the opportunity to connect.

That’s why I created WellnessHub. Not to promise happiness, solve loneliness, or replace family, and certainly not to become another social media platform. I created WellnessHub to make it easier for people to discover what already exists around them: the people, activities, organizations, and opportunities that can help create a stronger sense of belonging within their own community. Because every meaningful friendship begins somewhere. Sometimes… it begins by simply deciding to show up.

I truly believe that one conversation, one event, one shared experience, or one new friendship can change the direction of someone’s life.
